NASONEX ALLERGY

PurposePurpose

    Nasonex®  Allergy nasal spray is clinically proven to treat and prevent the symptoms of nasal allergies caused by allergens including dust mites, grass or tree pollen, pets, and mould spores.3,4 These symptoms may include, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, nasal congestion, itchy eyes and watery eyes.

    Nasonex®  Allergy nasal spray is not intended for use as a remedy for colds or any condition other than the relief of hayfever and allergy symptoms due to pollen, dust, pets and mould. 

    DosageDosage

      Nasonex®  Allergy nasal spray contains mometasone furoate – an anti-inflammatory that belongs to the corticosteroid group of medicines.

      For adults and children 12 years and over, start with 2 sprays into each nostril, once daily. Once symptoms are controlled, reduce the dose to 1 spray into each nostril, once daily. Do not use more than the recommended dose. Use everyday for best results.

      If you miss a dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

      If you take more than you are meant to, we recommend that you contact your doctor, pharmacist or the Poisons Information Line on 13 11 26 for advice, or go to Accident and Emergency at your nearest hospital. We recommend you do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.

        Yes. Simply shake the bottle, remove the plastic cap and press downward on the applicator. Pump until a fine spray appears. The pump should be primed prior to first use or if it has not been used for 14 days or longer. 

        To clean the inside of the applicator you’ll need to:

        • Remove the plastic cap
        • Pull gently upward on the nasal applicator to remove it
        • Rinse both ends of the nasal applicator under cold water and let it air dry
        • Once dry, put nasal applicator back on pump stem
        • Reprime the pump

        Do not use Nasonex® Allergy nasal spray for:

        • Children under the age of 12
        • Anyone with a hypersensitivity to mometasone furoate or any of the excipients in Nasonex® Allergy.
        • Anyone currently experiencing a severe nose infection

        If you’re currently taking corticosteroid medicines or are unsure about whether you fall into any of the categories above, consult your GP or pharmacist before using Nasonex® Allergy.

        Pregnant women and those breastfeeding should consult their doctor before using Nasonex®  Allergy nasal spray.

        Nasonex® Allergy nasal spray and DesonexTM Allergy Tablets can be used together when symptoms are not well controlled with an intranasal corticosteroid spray (INCS) such as Nasonex® Allergy alone, if pronounced eye symptoms are present, or when starting treatment with Nasonex® Allergy, while waiting for Nasonex® Allergy to reach full effect. DesonexTM will provide fast symptom relief.
        Nasonex® Allergy and DesonexTM work in different ways to provide hayfever and allergy relief.

          It may take 1-2 days for the full effect of Nasonex® Allergy nasal spray to take place. If your symptoms are not relieved within 7 days, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

          You can use Nasonex® Allergy nasal spray on a daily basis for up to 6 months if needed. Do not use for more than 6 months continuously without the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.

          Nasonex®  Allergy nasal spray has a shelf life of 36 months from date of manufacture. Do not use Nasonex® Allergy past the expiry date printed on the label.

          Hayfever or allergies share many of their symptoms with the common cold, which can cause some confusion. Here are some of the key differences.7

            DesonexTM contains desloratadine 5mg which is a non-drowsy antihistamine that provides 24-hour symptom relief of hayfever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), year-round allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis) and hives for adults and children 12 years and over.

            DesonexTM provides relief of hayfever and year round allergic rhinitis symptoms such as nasal congestion, itchy palate/throat, itchy/runny nose, sneezing, itchy/watery eyes. DesonexTM can also relieve itchy skin due to hives.

            Each DesonexTM Allergy tablets contain the active ingredient desloratadine 5mg.

            DosageDosage

              DesonexTM is to be taken once a day only.

              Adults and children 12 years and older - one tablet once daily as necessary. Not recommended for children under 12 years. Take DesonexTM tablets at the earliest signs of hayfever & allergy symptoms for fast relief. Use daily until symptoms have resolved.

                Usually you should experience relief between 1 hour and 15 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes after taking DesonexTM.

                DesonexTM is a non-drowsy medication, which can be taken anytime. Take Desonex® as soon as the first symptoms of allergy appear, for effective relief.

                DesonexTM can be used in children 12 years and older only. If you are looking for a desloratadine option for children under 12 years of age, look for AERIUS® for Children Syrup. AERIUS® for Children Syrup contains desloratadine 2.5mg/5mL. It has a pleasant bubblegum flavour and comes with a dosing syringe, which makes it easy to accurately administer. AERIUS® for Children Syrup is suitable to relieve allergy symptoms for children from 12 months of age and for children as young as 6 months for the treatment of hives.

                As DesonexTM is a film coated tablet, it should be swallowed whole. We cannot recommend that DesonexTM tablets be crushed, halved or mixed with food or another liquid.

                  Allergic sensitisation tends to persist but symptoms may resolve. The earlier that airborne allergy appears, the more likely it is to persist into adolescence and adulthood.

                  Hayfever or allergies share many of their symptoms with the common cold, which can cause some confusion. Here are some of the key differences.7

                  For Adults we have 10, 20 and 40 tablets.

                  At the recommended dose, this medicine is not expected to make you drowsy. Although most people do not experience drowsiness, it is recommended not to engage in activities requiring mental alertness until you have established your own response to the medicinal product.

                  AERIUS® tablets have been rebranded to DesonexTM tablets. The core formulation has not changed, DesonexTM tablets are effectively the same as AERIUS® tablets, just with a new name and look. DesonexTM tablets contain the active ingredient, desloratadine 5mg. DesonexTM can be found in pharmacies in Australia in packs of 10, 20 and 40 tablets. AERIUS® tablets will appear in market until stock has been depleted. Once stock has been depleted, AERIUS® tablets will no longer be available in Australia and will be replaced by Desonex™ tablets. AERIUS® Syrup will continue to be sold in Australia.

                  Each DesonexTM Tablet is a light blue round, film-coated tablet with a flat centre on one side and rounded on the other side.
